About Pete Bottrill.....

I am a fully qualified Mechanical Engineering Technician with a broad background in working with all kinds of domestic appliances.

I started with a 6 year apprenticeship which lead to a Mechanical Engineering Diploma. After some time servicing and repairing ‘white goods’ (washing machines, fridges, freezers etc) I moved into general plumbing.

Later, I realised that my engineering knowledge had given me a talent for solving complex problems with Central heating boilers and their control systems. I became ‘CORGI’ registered in 1990 so that I could concentrate on working with gas appliances.

I have a motto that has stood me (and usually my customers as well!) in good stead: "If it seems to be a very complex problem, you have missed the simple solution".

Sometimes the only realistic solution to a central heating problem is a new boiler, but building regulations require us to not only replace the boiler, but also bring all the associated control and hot water systems up to the latest standards. This can be unnecessarily costly for an boiler that is readily repairable.

Often people are given the easy (but expensive) advice - "It’s worn out, throw it away." but my philosophy is that very often boilers can function perfectly for years by simply renewing a part.

I will often repair boilers that are twenty years old rather than replace them because a simple part can give them another ten years good service. (Bear in mind that ten years is considered an acceptable service life for a not inexpensive modern boiler!)

There are many different options depending on your circumstances and requirements.

Contact me and I will try to help. If I can’t, I won’t waste your time - I’ll say so!
